![]() Depending on which DDNS provider you pick, there are tons of little tools you can run in the background and they check if your public IP has changed, and if it has they connect to the DDNS provider and update the record, automatically. The whole point of it is that you DONT need to manually update it when your ISP gives you a new home IP. You can for example use ĭDNS standards for Dynamic DNS. After you have a (sub-)domain, configure a DDNS-Client to update that DNS-record. Just google ddns, and you will probably find a dozen or so free providers. So for you: You need a domain name, or you can use one of the many DDNS-providers out there, to host a subdomain. For that you normally have some sort of service running (most often on your Router), that checks what your current public IP is, and then sends a request to your Registrar to update the DNS-Entry to point to that public IP address. ![]() Once a day all these databases sync to the root-servers (which there aren't many of.).ĭDNS (Dynamic Domain Name System) is an extension of that, that allows you to automatically update a specific DNS-Entry. On a regular basis (I think 10 minutes) the lower level servers all sync their changes, so that no matter which DNS-Server you use ( 8.8.8.8 google, 1.1.1.1 cloudflare), all replies match.
